Crafted Emotions in Georgia Craft Shows

Posted by Seamus Willingham Web Hosting Thursday 27 August 2009 11:11 am

Every individual has talent, that’s for sure. Some are quite talented at sports, some are handy in the kitchen. A select few have interests and hobbies that most people haven’t heard of before. These keep us surprisingly unique from one another. It is another one of the qualities that separate us from other species.

Of all these hobbies, however, the art of crafts making is perhaps the most rewarding of them all. This is due to the fact that the hobby produces something physical and enduring. Unlike food that gets consumed, or sports that are only kept in the memory of the fans, the crafts that you make will last long after you are gone.

So, it will be helpful for you if your crafts are imbibed with a bit of your own personality. This should come as second nature to most artists and artisans, but there are some who have a hard time with this. Try as they might, the crafts they make come out lifeless and dull. These individuals are simply trying a bit too hard, I’m sure. Crafted artworks should mirror the soul, and thus, the crafts person should not try to do something she doesn’t really feel like making. Make something you want to do, and don’t jump on the bandwagon and follow a fad or trend you’ve only seen.

Crafting is a richly rewarding hobby. Notice that your emotions at the moment you crafted the items, will also be apparent in the final product. Personally, I prefer to do my crafted works when I’m in a thoughtful mood, as it adds a bit of “depth” to the piece. Often times, a stroke of genius is all it takes for you to turn your project in a 180 degree turn and pursue a new path, one that is probably more profitable for you. Of course, this is for a few minority.

Some people, though, like to make their products when they are at the other ends of the emotional spectrum: agitated or depressed. The final pieces will then take on a gloomy or harsher visage, which is also interesting for some people. Maybe for people with a bit of negativity. But this sort of style fits in with all sorts of decorative niches and such. Usually, this approach appeals well with the eccentric and elites. If you find yourself in a market full of people looking for oddities and such, maybe walking on the border line edge of standards and creativity is not a bad idea.

Do Mobile Phones Cause Cancer?

Posted by Aleksandro Imles Web Hosting Thursday 27 August 2009 11:06 am

by Aleksandro Imles

Are you concerned about the risk of getting cancer from long-term cell phone usage? Finally, some scientific studies assessing the link between cell phones and cancer have been conducted. The results are in, and I for one was surprised…

Cell Phones and Cancer: No Evidence

A study published today by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute should put chronic cell phone users at ease. Researchers in Denmark studied 420,000 cell phone users whose cases were followed for up to 21 years. The study focused on both men and women who began using cellular telephone service between 1982 and 1995, and followed them through 2002 for signs of cancer. The bottom line:

“We found no evidence for an association between tumor risk and cellular telephone use among either short-term or long-term users.” Researchers took advantage of the fact that Denmark maintains a national cancer registry, and correlated that to cell phone subscriber records. Statistically, they expected to find 15,000 incidences of cancer (brain tumors, acoustic neuromas, leukemias, etc.) in the group, but the number turned out to be less - only 14,249 indicents of cancer were noted in the group.

Just to clarify, I don’t mean to say they expected to find 15,000 cancers related to cell phones… I’m saying that based on medical stats they knew that in ANY group of 400,000 people, they could expect to find that many cases of cancer. If there was a definitive link between cell phones and cancer, you’d expect the numbers for this group, comprised ONLY of cell phone users, to be much higher. But contrary to the widely-held suspicion that cell phone usage causes cancer, this study indicates a lower rate of cancer among long-term cell phone users.

The learn also found no link between the side of the head on which brains cancers occurred and the side on which the cellular phone was used. If you want more details on the study, you can look the facts and figures for yourself.

Even though these studies seem to clearly debunk the “cell phone cancer” theory, it’s interesting that several of the researchers mentioned that ongoing research is needed to make sure the results hold true for those who use cell phones for 10 years or more. It makes sense to me to minimize cell phone use, and exposure to the radio waves they emit, just to be on the safe side. If you must spend countless hours on a cell phone, consider using a headset to place more distance between the antenna and your brain. I find that cell phone technology still has not advanced to the point where a clear, uninterrupted conversation is possible, even when there is a strong signal. So if I have a choice, I’ll pick up a conventional phone with a land line any time. Got comments about cell phones and health risks? Post your thoughts below…

Bass fish are found all over this planet in all kinds of watery haunts from the ocean itself to remote streams and hidden lakes, to that little neighborhood pond that you remember as a kid. They have been proven by time to be the most popular game fish above all other types, and not only are they fun to fish and catch, but they make for good eating as well.

The word “bass” comes down to us from the Middle English word “bars” which literally in olden times meant “perch”. The scientific name of the order that the bass fish belong to is Perciformes translated means “perch-like” fish; and the members of this order are divided into two main divisions of freshwater and marine fish depending on which type of water they prefer. They will quite often be found swimming in groups and that group terminology is called a shoal.

There a numerous types of bass fish found in all sorts of watery environments; from small streams and remote ponds and lakes, to the ocean itself. The two main types of bass are referred to as temperate basses and black basses of the scientific family Moronidae. The temperate basses are the striped bass and the white bass; while the black bass group contains the largemouth bass, small mouth, Guadalupe, and spotted bass.

When people speak of bass fish, they are not just talking about the fish that fall under the main bass groups; they are also including a lot of kinds of fish that are similar to the bass, but are not technically part of the scientific group. Those kinds referred to by anglers as bass include black sea bass, giant sea bass and the Australian bass.

Bass fishing is the most popular game fishing sport without a doubt, and there are legions of anglers who would attest to that. A whole industry has built up around the bass fish, and there are hundreds upon hundreds of online websites where you can go to get any bit of information you want about the world of bass fishing or join a forum to talk with other bass fishermen; as well as specialty sports stores that specialize in the sport. There are all kinds of boats designed just for bass fishing, lures, equipment, recreational lodges built near bodies of water that support bass—the list is endless.

Your bass fishing experience is not complete without having a boat designed especially for the sport and using it to go after the prized bass fish. There are all kinds of styles, sizes, makes of bass fishing boats and the price ranges reflect the differences from flat boats, jon boats, electric boats—-all kinds of boats just for fishing for bass. The average bass boat ranges in size from 16 to 26 feet and is usually made of aluminum or fiberglass and will have an electric trolling motor installed on the bow of the boat which is required by law.

The sport of bass fishing is loved by many the world over and for very good reason; because the enjoyment of pursuing the bass fish is exciting in many ways. When you are totally outfitted and have a great little boat that you can park yourself on and just relax for the day on a remote lake or pond; or conversely are having the time of your life hooking and working a fighting bass fish on the end of the line—-the fun is never ending and reaffirms the fact for you loud and clear just how much bass fishing is loved by the fishing world.
